The American brand UGG was founded in 1978 in Southern California. Australian surfer Brian Smith and his partner Doug Jensen started it with the intention of giving Americans access to the cozy sheepskin boots that were popular in Australia. Since then, the firm has transformed the style of comfort footwear and switched to renewable materials like sugarcane produced in rainwater rather than EVA made of petroleum. The monotone style of the shoe is further enhanced by the white and sand plaid laces, which are composed of recyclable materials. The tongue and outer heel are branded with the UGG logo.
