In 1978, Southern California gave rise to the American brand UGG. The goal of its founding was to provide Americans access to the cozy sheepskin boots that were common in Australia, where surfer Brian Smith and his partner Doug Jensen were based. Afterwards, the company transformed the design of comfort footwear and started using sustainable materials instead of EVA derived from petroleum, including sugarcane cultivated by rainfall. The shoe’s monotone design is further enhanced by the addition of white and sand plaid laces comprised of recycled materials. The tongue and outer heel both bear the UGG logo.
